How credits work
Top up your balance once, then reserve your spot at any dinner using credits. If your plans change, cancel before the deadline and your credits go straight back to your balance.
All walks of life
Most of our guests are in their forties, fifties and sixties — with plenty beyond. In your thirties? You're very welcome, just know you might be the youngest seat at the table.
Not a dating event
Dinners With Friends is focused purely on platonic friendships and community connection. The goal is to make new friends and expand your social circle.

General Questions
What is Dinners with Friends?
Dinners With Friends is all about breaking bread with new people. Our events create a relaxed atmosphere where like-minded strangers become friends over delicious meals and easy-going conversation.
Is this a dating event?
No, this is not a dating event. Dinners With Friends is focused purely on platonic friendships and community connection. The goal is to make new friends and expand your social circle.
Do I have to come with someone?
Not at all — most of our guests come alone, and it's arguably the best way to experience it. Every table is hosted, introductions are made for you, and everyone else is there to meet new people too.
I'm introverted, is this still for me?
Many of our regular guests describe themselves as introverts. Our hosts are skilled at facilitating conversation and making sure everyone feels included. We also use conversation cards to help break the ice, so you never have to worry about awkward silences.
Where do events take place?
At hand-picked partner restaurants across Devon — Exeter and the surrounding towns. Each event page lists the venue along with how to get there, and you can browse dinners by city or venue to find one near you.
Credits & Booking
How do I book a seat at a dinner?
Create a free account, browse the upcoming events, and reserve your spot using credits. You'll receive a booking confirmation email with the date, time, venue and its contact details — everything you need for the night.
Do I get anything for signing up?
Yes — new accounts receive welcome credits to put towards a first booking. Signing up is free and all you need is an email address; no card details required.
What do credits cover?
Your credits reserve your seat at the dinner. Food and drinks are ordered and paid for separately at the venue, just like you would if dining with friends.
Do credits expire?
No! Your credits never expire. Buy them when it suits you and use them whenever you're ready to join a dinner.
The Experience
What should I expect during the dinner?
Expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere with 10-12 guests at your table. Our host will greet you, make introductions, and help facilitate conversation. Dinner typically lasts 2-3 hours, giving you plenty of time to get to know your fellow diners.
What happens when I arrive?
Just give your name — there are no tickets or QR codes to show. Your host will welcome you, show you to the table and make the introductions. From there, the evening takes care of itself.
Is there a dress code?
We recommend smart casual attire. Think of it as dressing for a nice dinner out with friends. There's no need to be overly formal, but we do ask guests to make a bit of effort as it adds to the atmosphere.
What if the conversation dries up?
That's what the host is there for. They keep introductions flowing and have conversation cards on hand if the table fancies a nudge — awkward silences are their natural enemy.
Hosting & Partnerships
How do I become a host?
We're looking for Community Hosts across the UK — the person at the table who makes everyone feel at ease. There's no cooking or organising involved; you're there to welcome guests and keep the conversation flowing. Visit our Host With Us page to find out more and apply.
I run a restaurant — can we become a venue?
We'd love to hear from you. We partner with restaurants across Devon that suit long, sociable dinners. Email [email protected] with a little about your venue and we'll take it from there.
